Portrayal of Private William Webb, Civil War Soldier of the 29th Connecticut Volunteers

Then in 1863, in Hartford, the cries came through the street, “Black men; free men of Hartford - enlist for the war”-1700 soldiers. I enlisted December 22, 1863. Our regiment wasn’t mustered in the US Army, not until March 8 of 1864.
