CGS Public Act 872.

Agency History :

1971, established by P.A. 872, sec. 2, to consolidate the power and duties of many programs throughout state government dealing with the environment. In 1971, the Dept. of Agriculture and Natural Resources was split. The agricultural components were absorbed by a new Dept. of Agriculture, while the natural resources components were transferred to the new Dept. of Environmental Protection. These programs included :

Park and Forest Commission
Commission on Forests and Wildlife

State Board of Fisheries and Game
Water Resources Commission
Boating Commission
Shell-Fish Commission
State Geological and Natural History Survey Commission
Clean Air Commission

Waste Program from State Dept. of Health
