Agency History :

1965, July 1, the Commission for Higher Education established per 1965 Public Act 330. Commission assumes responsibilities for higher education and the state colleges previously administered by the Board of Education.
1977, August 1, a Board of Higher Education is established to replace the Commission for Higher Education, per P.A. 77-614.
1983, March, a Board of Governors of Higher Education replaces the Board of Higher Education. A new Dept. of Higher Education serves as the administrative arm of the Board of Governors per P.A. 82-218.
