1868, Industrial School for Girls
incorporated as a private charity.
1870, School opened on donated land in Middletown.
1921, June 24, property transferred to the State, and the name changed to
Long Lane Farm per Public Acts chpt. 402. About this time, the
State set up the Juvenile Court System. Long Lane Farm and the
Connecticut
School for Boys at Meriden became juvenile detention centers for persons
committed by the Juvenile Courts.
1943, name changed to Long Lane School per 1943 Cum. Suppl. s. 373g.
1970, Jan. 3, administratively became part of the new
Dept. of Children and
Youth Services, per 1969 Public Act 664.
1972, Merged with the School for Boys. All boys transferred from Meriden to
the Long Lane facility.
1993, July, Dept. of Children and Youth Services renamed
Dept. of Children and Families.
2003, February 7, Long Lane School facility is shut down. Girls are
dispersed to facilities throughout the state, boys are sent to the new
Connecticut Juvenile
Training School in Middletown.
