1869, established as the Whipple Home School (in Ledyard).
1872, moved to present site in Mystic.
1895, reorganized and renamed as Mystic Oral School for the Deaf.
1898, incorporated.
1921, state assumed full ownership and supervision per Public Acts, chpt. 200.
1959, administratively, transferred to
State Dept. of Education per Public Act 525.
1980, June, use as a school for deaf students discontinued. Children are placed
in regional/local programs. Facility remains under the maintenance and direction
of the State Dept. of Education.
1980, facility name changed to Mystic Educational Center, per P.A.
80-230.
