Special Note: In 1937, there was a Department of Public Works established by the Public Acts, 1937, chpt. 126. Robert A. Hurley was the Commissioner from 1937-1941. George L. Burke was Commissioner 1941-1943. The Dept. was abolished effective March 5, 1943 per section 464g of the 1943 Supplement to the Connecticut General Statutes.

established by P.A. no. 4 of Public Acts of the Special Session of the
General Assembly, March 1950.
1977, October 1, Public Works Dept. becomes the Bureau of Public Works in the Dept. of Administrative Services
1987, July 1, an independent Dept. of Public Works is reestablished by P.A. 87-496.
