Agency History :

Established as Connecticut State Farm for Women. Per Public Acts chpt. 358. Opened in 1918.
1930, Prison for Women established as a department of the Connecticut State Farm for Women per Public Acts of 1929, chpt. 267. June 24, 1930, all women from the State Prison in Wethersfield transferred to the Prison for Women. The State Farm and State Prison operate as 2 units under one administration.
1969, the State Farm and the State Prison for Women were merged into the new Dept. of Correction, per P.A. 297. Renamed Connecticut Correctional Institution, Niantic. Referred to as Niantic Correction Institution.
1994, York Correctional Institution constructed on Niantic Correctional Institution land.
1996, York Correctional Institution and Niantic Correctional Institution merged, keeping York Correctional Institution as the name.
