Historical NoteEast Haddam, Middlesex County, Town established in May 1734, Parent Town: Haddam The East Haddam Probate District was constituted October 1741, from the Hartford Probate District. The East Haddam Probate District merged with the East Hampton, Marlborough, and Portland Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Region #14 Probate District which serves the municipalities of East Haddam, East Hampton, Marlborough and Portland. See Alternative Form Available note below. Probate files, 1905-1981. East Haddam District probate files dated 1721 to May 28, 1832 are filed with the Colchester District probate files. Prior to the creation of the Colchester District in 1832, the East Haddam District held its probate court in Colchester. The files remained in that town and were kept with the files of the new Colchester District. Probate files may consist of estates, conservatorships, guardianships, commitments, and insolvencies. Tax returns (succession, transfer and estate tax returns and all attachments) from January 1, 1921 and later are confidential per Connecticut General Statutes §12-15. Accession 2011-112, Record books, 1832-1945; Accession 2012-019, Probate files, 1905-1981; and Accession 2012-036, Wills, 1826-2009, bulk 1920-2009, are stored at an off-site facility and therefore may not be available on a same-day basis.
