In 2005, several states decided to celebrate the American record with an archives month. The Society of American Archivists has taken the leadership in assisting the states to make Archives Month a truly national celebration. One will find a useful resource page at http://www.archivists.org/archivesmonth/index.asp: press kit to use in publicizing the celebration; links to a digital collection of state archives month posters over the years; and a list of web pages, blogs, wikis posted by repositories within states to provide additional news about archives month activities. With these resources, repositories can learn what events they might put on to highlight the role of archives and archivists in a democratic society.
This year the Connecticut State Historical Records Advisory Board is providing an opportunity for Connecticut’s archival repositories to share information about their activities in October. Organizations can send press releases or other information about ways in which they will be raising awareness of the public and resource allocators during this October. The board intends this to be a central clearinghouse that individuals and groups can use.
Send announcements to the State Archivist Mark Jones at mjones@cslib.org.
