Course:2: Acquiring Your Collections
Lesson:Lesson 3: Appraisal--Deciding What Records to Acquire
Topic:Your Decision

Your Decision

After you have considered all these questions you will come down to two fundamental questions:

  1. Are the records historically valuable?
  2. Are the records appropriate for your repository?

The decision to accept records into your program is guided by your collection policy. If the records meet the criteria that you established for your policy, then you should probably accept them. Why use the word "probably?" There are always exceptions to the rule!

If you've used your policy and these questions to make your decision, you will be comfortable with your choice.
