Course:2: Acquiring Your Collections
Lesson:Lesson 6: Documenting Your Accessions
Topic:Collection Files

Accession Files

You should have one accession file for each accession that you hold. This file should contain:

  • A completed accession form
  • Supporting documentation such as inventories if appropriate and available

It may eventually also contain finding aids and disposal information.

You will need to determine an appropriate order for these files based on your workflows and numbering systems. We suggest ordering the files by accession number.

These records may also be maintained in a notebook or database.
