Preservation Decisions
Based on this review, you need to make the following preservation decisions:
1. Should the photographs be removed and stored separately, or housed in archival quality folders and stored within the collection?
Remove the photographs?
You estimate that there are approximately 300 – 400 photographs within the collection. Removing them will require extensive cross referencing and labeling that will substantially increase processing time. Further, the photographs are integral to understanding the records and researchers will rely on them. Thus, removing them may be highly frustrating for the user.
Stored with the collection?
The nature of the collection is such that the photographs are integral to it. Maintaining them within the collection will provide a better user experience and will maintain the cohesion of the records.
