Mr. Thomas speaks wisely. Stay away from the ink jet printers. They are
slow, and the cartridges (at $30 a pop) are expensive measured against the
number of copies produced. The low purchase price does not represent a
savings when the cartridge costs are tallied up. Go with a laser!

The popular HP 5L B&W laser printer (under $400) does NOT work particularly
well in heavily used public situations. At the Kent Memorial Library we've
had to send one back with a serious paper jam. They often jam. The 5L is
great for back office use though.

I would suggest spending $700 and getting an HP printer. Sorry for being
so unimaginative, but it will last many many moons with no headaches--try
the 6P. And as Mr. Thomas said, auto printer sharing device can easily
connect this printer to a few computers--these devices are now under $50.
Amazing!

We have the comparable 5MP in our workroom. The cartridges seem costly at
$85 each, but each one lasts us a full year. No lie! You can't beat it.
