Subject: "Morphing the Librarians"

"Like the primates who escape from subservience to take over the world in
'Planet of the Apes', Hal Varian sees librarians crawling out from behind
their card catalogs to rule the global datasphere."
So begins the article on page 64 of WIRED magazine August 1997. Varian is
the dean of UC Berkeley's School of Information Management and Systems, he
is an economist by training according to the article. "This is no longer a
library school," he says, "This is a new school to train people for new job
markets."

This is a FYI to my fellow Conntechers. It's only a one page article, but
it certainly caught my attention. I recommend it for a reading snack. It
left me with more questions than answers, and some amusement as I've always
been fond of the Caesar character in 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes'.
Though I never identified him with my vocation.
