New Britain Public Library is seeking a full-time Children's Librarian and a
part-time Reference Librarian.
CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN, Librarian I
Full-time librarian in Children's Services, responsible for doing both
in-library and outreach programs for children ages preschool through Grade 5
and providing reference and reader's advisory service. Participates in
materials selection and collection maintenance. Reports to Head of
Children's Services. Requires a demonstrated ability to work with children,
knowledge of children's literature and child development required. Requires
vehicle and valid CT driver's license to conduct community outreach programs.
REFERENCE LIBRARIAN, Librarian I
Part-time (20 hours per week) Reference Librarian to provide patrons of all
ages with information, including reference and online catalog instruction.
Participates in the selection and maintenance of materials collections and
in activities that encourage reading and the use of library materials.
Reports to the Head of Reference.
Both positions require an MLS from an ALA accredited institution, computer
literacy, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, ability to
get along with a wide variety of people and to manage difficult situations.
Proficiency in Polish, Spanish or another language prevalent in New Britain
prefered. Evening and Saturday hours included in schedule.
