Subject: Can of Worms
ConnTechers:
Am I opening up the proverbial "can of worms" by writing an article on the
subject of INTERNET FILTERING (using software) in libraries?
The article will be published in the Dec. issue of the journal CONNECTICUT
LIBRARIES (that is, if it's any good).
HELP HELP HELP. HELP. HELP. Would anyone out there in ConnTechLand be so
kind as to offer an opinion on this controversial subject? The BASIC
QUESTION is: Are you for or against filtering the Internet in your library,
and why? Is ANY brand of filtering the Internet ever acceptable in the
library, and why? Your thoughts please.
Also, any REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES with filtering--or refusal to filter--would
be greatly appreciated.
Please respond to ConnTech with the understanding that I may be using your
comments for the Connecticut Libraries article in December. (Please
provide you full name, library, and phone number, so I can follow up if
needed).
Thanks for sticking your neck out on this one.
