ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY FROM L.O.S.T.
L.O.S.T. (Librarian's On-line Support Team) is sponsoring another free
on-line professional development workshop available to library personnel
with Internet capability. This session, entitled: World Wide Web Search
Tools: Finding Medicine and Health Information on the Web:
Pharmaceuticals, Diagnosis and Treatment, Physician and Hospital Referral,
Medical Education and more, will be presented by Diane Kovacs.
This session will be offered on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at 12 Noon,
EST. Librarians need not leave their homes or worksites to take part in
the seminar. Participants will log onto Diversity University's live
"virtual campus" environment from their home or work computer. Organizers
anticipate the workshop will last about an hour and a half. Each workshop
is limited to twenty people and pre-registration is necessary. Email
Isabel Danforth at danforth@tiac.net by October 24th to register and
obtain a conference information and direction packet.
Diane K. Kovacs is President of Kovacs Consulting - Internet & World Wide
Web Training & Consulting and is the editor-in-chief of the Directory of
Scholarly and Professional Electronic Conferences. She has more than 6
years of experience as an Internet Trainer and Consultant.
Her current books are The Internet Trainer's Total Solution Guide Van
Nostrand Reinhold Publishers: New York. ISBN 0-442-0253305 and with Michael
J. Kovacs, Cybrarians Guide to Successful Internet Programs and Services
Neal-Schuman Publishers: New York. ISBN 1-555-702872. Diane's first book
The Internet Trainer's Guide, was published by Van Nostrand Reinhold in
1995. She is co-authoring with Ann Carlson a forthcoming book Health and
Medicine on the Internet from Library Solutions Press
She was the recipient of the Apple Corporation Library's, Internet Citizen
Award for 1992 and was the University of Illinois Graduate School of
Library and Information Science Alumni Association's first recipient of the
Young Leadership Award in 1996.
Diane received an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the
University of Illinois in 1989 and an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology
from Kent State University in 1993. Currently she is enrolled in Ph.D.
program in Communications at Ohio State University
The Librarian's On-Line Support Team (L.O.S.T.) is a an organization that
is coordinated by a steering committee consisting of academic, research,
public, and K- 12 librarians from wide-spread locations. The group provides
space for librarians, many of whom are being thrust into cyberspace with
minimal training and support, to get both formal and informal instruction
and mentoring. Librarians with various levels of background can meet to
share ideas and experiences informally. The group is currently based at
the virtual campus of Diversity University, a cyberspace location that
offers both real-time and delayed interaction via computer and currently
supports over 4,000 educators and students world-wide. Information about
