Subject: More CAP bid info.
With Peter's permission, I am posting a question he sent to me and my reply, to try to
clarify the CAP bid award situation for CLSU member libraries. I know all of the
regional offices have been getting calls about this.
His question:
> Today (Oct. 17) I received a special delivery letter from Ingram. It
>detailed a series of discounts available only to Eastern Connecticut
>and CAP libraries and claimed to be good from 10/21/97 to 11/30/99. It looks
>very much like the official receipient of the CAP bid, but your e-mail says that
>Baker and Taylor received the contract. Please explain.
>Peter CHase, Plainville Public Library
>library@pcnet.com
My reply:
Ingram did *not* receive any part of the CAP bid. Apparently, as soon
as they found this out they did their own mailing to all public libraries in CT. While
they are entitled to pursue accounts on their own in the state, I was
dismayed to see their letter used the term "CAP" and could be
miscontrued as an announcement of the official CAP award. We are
furiously preparing our mailing to go to all CLSU member libraries in
the state ASAP, but since Ingram's letter may be confusing people, I
thought I should quickly post the official CAP announcement online.
Baker & Taylor is indeed the designated CAP book vendor, offering a
trade discount of 45%. Please look for more information in the mail this
week, or call or email me with further questions.
Anyone with questions about the official CAP vendor awards should feel free to contact
me. Thank you.
