This is an official announcement that I will be retiring from my position as State Librarian on
December 1, 1997.   I have accepted the position of Library Programs Director at the Gates Library
Foundation and will be moving to Redmond, WA  where I will begin work on December 15. 

This is a unique opportunity, and a very different career direction for me.  I am very excited about
the possibilities that Bill Gates has made available to the public libraries of this country, and I
feel honored to have been selected for this position at the Foundation. 

After 11 years at the State Library, it is not without mixed emotions that I leave Connecticut.  Let
me take this opportunity to thank all of you for the support you have given me and the State Library
staff as we have worked together to advance library service in this state. 

Best wishes to all of you as you continue your efforts to improve and expand library service in
Connecticut!
