Subject: USF Workshops

Conntechers:
The State Library finally is rescheduling our USF workshops. We understand the applications will be
available this week so we boldly have scheduled the workshops for later in the month.

A mailing will be sent to public libraries and CLSU offices but I thought you might want to get it
on your schedule as soon as possible.

Universal Service Fund Workshops
Sponsored by the Connecticut State Library

Presented by
Richard Akeroyd, State Librarian
Sharon Brettschneider, Director, Division of Library Development

The 1996 Telecommunications Act established a Universal Service Fund to offer discounts on
telecommunications for libraries and schools. Discounts from this fund will become available on
January 1, 1998. In early November the applications finally will be made available. These
workshops are meant to assist libraries with the application process. Copies of the application
will be distributed and the instructions for completion will be described in detail.

This workshop is for public libraries. School libraries are not eligible independent of their
school's application. The Dept. of Education is offering separate workshops for schools. Academic
libraries are not eligible unless their budget is completely separate from their institution.

The workshop will be repeated at three locations and dates:

November 21, 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Willimantic Library Service Center

November 25, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Middletown Library Service Center

November 26, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Middlebury Public Library
