Subject: Re: elibrary
We had a subscription to Electric Library last year before the free
trials were available.
We used what they call the "client" version. We had it on a Windows 3.11
machine with a 486 processor and our Net connection was through Connix.
The public and the staff enjoyed using it and found it a very good
resource, despite a few quirks
.
This year we "re-upped" as part of the statewide program and loaded new
software. We had some strange problems with the keyboard and mouse
suddenly freezing up. We have had frequent conversations with technical
support people, especially Nathan Frick from Carl, who is a pleasure to
work with. We have solved the keyboard/mouse freeze-up problem, but have
not eliminated some other problems. We "regressed" to an earlier
version of the software, and we are thinking of using the "Web browser"
version. We still like the product, and we will continue to experiment
with our configuration, security software, etc. and eventually try
putting it on a Pentium with Win 95.
In short, we like Electric Library. We just wish it would work more
reliably for us, and it is very possible that we are the source of the
problem.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
