ALA extends deadline for award nominations

     The American Library Association has extended the nominating
deadline to Dec. 15 for a number of its achievement awards.
     Nomination forms for the awards may be obtained by dialing
800-545-2433, press 8,  then the document number as noted below:
    The awards are:  Equality Award - $500 - For promoting equality of
women and men in librarianship (doc. 421);* Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for
Change Award - $1,000 - For positive changes in librarianship (doc.422);
 Grolier Foundation Award - $1,000 - For significant achievement in
guiding and stimulating the reading of children and young  people
(doc.424);  Joseph W. Lippincott Award - $1000 - To a librarian for
distinguished service to the profession (doc. 425);  Phi Beta Mu - $500 -
Presented to a library school faculty member or any individual for
distinguished service in library education (doc. 417); Virginia and Herb
White Award - $1,000 - To a librarian who has brought public recognition
to librarianship (doc. 426);  Melvil Dewey Medal - An engraved medal is
awarded for creative professional achievement (doc. 419);
ALA/Information Today, Inc. Library of the Future Award - $1,500 - To
a library consortia or library related group for innovative patron training in
information technology (doc. 416); Gale Research Company Financial
Development Award - $2,500 - To a library organization for significant
achievement in a financial development project benefitting a public or
academic library (doc. 423);  H. W. Wilson Library Staff Development
Grant - $3,500 - To a library organization for a program to promote its
staff development goals (doc.427); and  EBSCO/ALA Conference
Scholarship - Up to $2,000 in actual expenses for attending ALA Annual
Conference (doc. 420).
