Subject: Baker & Taylor Problem
To all:
I have an ongoing problem when printing out confirmed electronic book
orders from Baker & Taylor. At random times, the printer will stop and my
cpu freezes up; the Esc key does not work and I have to reboot.
The printer is an older Epson dot matrix, connected by a switch box to the
cpu; there is also a LaserJet 5L (HP) printer which goes through the switch
box. I have Windows 95 and use the Start menu to reach the DOS prompt to
access Baker & Taylor.
When using Windows 3.1 in the past, I would frequently get a message while
printing :"Windows wants to take over LPT1" and if I didn't respond in
time, the system would freeze up. I'm wondering if Windows 95 is perhaps
doing the same thing and if so how to prevent it.
I have tried connecting the Epson directly to the cpu, bypassing the switch
box ,with inconsistent results. I have also turned off the screen saver,
and have exited and reopened Baker & Taylor before printing.
Has anyone encountered and solved this problem? If so, please call
