REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY
Academic library seeks a entry level reference librarian with strong public
services commitment and a vision and enthusiasm for teaching and the future of
electronic technologies to join a newly formed collegial team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in the library instruction program and provides general reference
assistance. Develops library instructional materials, teaches classes, and
investigates new systems and products. Participates in library liaison program
and collection development. This position calls for an enthusiastic, creative,
librarian who displays initiative and judgment in responding to service needs
and a willingness to reach beyond the boundaries of traditional library
service.
REQUIREMENTS:
MLS from ALA accredited program. One or more years professional experience.
Demonstrated ability to plan and teach user education programs Demonstrated
knowledge and skills using information technologies in an academic reference
environment including online library systems, software applications, CD-ROM
technologies, Internet protocols. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral
communication skill. Creative approach to development of new services;
commitment to responsive and innovative service essential.
Highly Desirable:
Second Masters degree; instruction/training experience.
CAMPUS AND LIBRARY:
Fairfield University is a selective, independent, small comprehensive
university with over 200 full time faculty, 3,500 full time undergraduate
students, and 2,400 part-time continuing education and graduate students in six
schools. The University was chartered by the Jesuits in 1942. Located in
suburb 50 miles outside of New York City, the 225 acre park-like campus
overlooks Long Island sound. Nyselius Library has over 270,000 volumes, an
integrated automated system (DRA), a CD-ROM local area network, and fiber optic
connectivity to the campus mainframe.
