Nominations Sought for CLA AWARDS
Outstanding Librarian Award
This award honors the career accomplishments of a librarian who has
demonstrated an outstanding record of service to both his/her library and
to the library profession. The following categories suggest areas in which
the nominee may have rendered significant service. Preference will be
given to nominees who have achieved in more than one area.
Development of outstanding service in field of expertise, e.g. reference,
children's services, administrative, or technical services
Involvement in statewide library activities
Record of professional library leadership
Encouragement of community/institutional support for the library
The nominee must be a member of CLA. The Awards Committee reserves the
right not to present this award in any given year. Attach a statement of
nomination with a description of the nominee's contributions. Informative
letters and other documentation may be submitted along with the nomination
form.
Special Achievement Award
This award honors an individual who has implemented a significant project
or initiated an innovative program during the year., The achievement being
honored should:
Have had a significant impact on the library, the community, or the library
profession; be timely, taking place within the past year
The Awards Committee reserves the right to present more than one award, or
not to present this award in any given year. This award may be given to
the same individual more than once. Attach a statement of nomination with
a description of the nominee's contributions. Informative letters and
other documentation may also be submitted along with the nomination form.
News Media Award
This award honors an individual journalist our news organization for
coverage of libraries and/or the principles of librarianship in an
exemplary way during the past year. Such support can be evidenced through
editorials, features, news reporting and /or special event coverage. This
media coverage can involve a number of library issues such as intellectual
freedom or a building project, or library programs such as services to
special populations. The Awards Committee reserves the right not to
present this award in any given year.
Attach a statement of nomination with a description of the nominee's
contributions. The nominee can be either an individual, such as a reporter
or columnist, an editorial board, or a news organization such as a
newspaper, magazine, radio or TV station. Copies of articles and other
material should be submitted with the nomination.
Adeline Mix Award
This award honors a student in an approved library program, either graduate
or undergraduate, full or part time, and enables the student to attend the
Connecticut Library Association's annual Conference on April 14-15, 1998.
A grant of $250. will be awarded in order to cover the student's conference
expenses including registration, accommodations and meals. The applicant
must be a member of CLA and the winner will be expected to sign an
agreement promising to attend the Award Ceremony and write a brief article
on his/her impressions of the conference.
Applications must be no longer than two typed pages and must include status
of current library school studies, education degrees and honors, statement
of need, and completion of a narrative describing how attendance at the CLA
Conference will assist the candidate's professional development. The
Awards Committee reserves the right not to present this award in any given
year.
CLA Intellectual Freedom Award
This award recognizes an individual for the demonstration of extraordinary
personal courage in the defense of intellectual freedom; or for the
recognition of a successful and creative project developed to raise
awareness of intellectual freedom issues; or for a published work on
intellectual freedom. Attach a statement of nomination with a description
of the nominee's contributions in this area. Informative letters and other
documentation may be submitted along with the nomination form. The Awards
Committee reserves the right not to present this award in any given year.
In addition to seven copies of the nomination form, all nominations should
be accompanied by supporting documentation such as: a narrative statement
of the nominee's contributions relative to the award; letters of
information, reference and support from others; articles or other evidence
of achievement.

Memorial Library, P.O. Box 387, Marlborough, CT 06447. Please send seven
copies of the nomination. The deadline for submitting nominations is
February 1, 1998.
