About a dozen companies have launched free e-mail services.
The top companies are:

Four11's RocketMail---http://www.rocketmail.com/
Excite's ExiteMail---http://mail.excite.com/

According to a study in August by MCI's LibraryLink, a joint project
between the American Library Association and MCI, alternative Web
access--libraries, museums, civic organizations, airports, hotels and other
points--accounted for 1.6 percent of all Web access in the spring of 1996.
Today these alternative points account for 4 percent of all Web access and
should reach 30 percent by the year 2000.
