From: "Rutherford, John (Library)" <Rutherford@mail.ccsu.edu> To: "'conntech@allen.ctstateu.edu'" <conntech@csuweb.ctstateu.edu> Subject: [CONNTECH] Conn. Weather Center Service Posting
The following note has been posted on behalf of the Connecticut Weather
Center. Please
direct all response to them.
My company, The Connecticut Weather Center, Inc. has developed an internet
based state-wide cancellation site. We call the system the IAN System. IAN
stands for Internet Access Notification. We have invested over 100,000
dollars on this public service effort. We just updated the site and bought
our own server for reliability. This effort began for schools in an effort
for Superintendents to NOT have to call radio/TV stations anylonger. They
could log in, post and be done with it. A link from the school page would
serve their site and Radio/TV could access the free information, print it
out and read it on the air. Soon libraries and busnesses wanted to use it as
well. am looking for a way to pass the word to all Libraries state-wide,
that this FREE service is here and that they can sign up, link to it and
post here for one-stop notifications. The problem is that this service is
FREE and so to spend time/manpower/and funds on a FREE service is NOT a wise
business decision. So I am asking you to help spread the word about the
sercvice so that all libraries can sign up and use this system.
Here is how the system works. When there are closings or even just
announcements about events; the library manager would log onto
www.ctweather.com. They will click on reporting and then enter a secure user
name and password and then enter the desired information. This information
is instantly posted to the Library Cancellation page , which is part of The
Connecticut Weather Center's internet site. Radio and Television Stations,
parents, students, staff, and the world can access this information for
Free..instantly. If internet access is lost or not available, you can call
our office with your username and password and we will post it for you!
The benefits reach everyone. The public has immediate information from
the libraries. The radio & television stations can access the page, print
it and read it on the air so they do not have to field all the calls and
possibly deliver incorrect messages from copying down the wrong information.
Libraries benefit by leading their community in technology as well as
reducing the time, effort, and cost of making the numerous calls to many
people and stations.
There is NO cost to use this system. As with our entire internet site,
there is no cost charged to use the site to enter any informastion or to
obtain information. But, most importantly, I would like to get as many
libraries on-line before the first snowflakes of winter fly.
Thank you again-
Bill Jacquemin
