Please re-post and distribute as appropriate.

The Connecticut State Library is sponsoring two E-Rate
Teleconferences to help you take advantage of E-Rate discounts. The
teleconferences are produced by Satellite Educational Resources
Consortium (SERC). The Satellite Educational Resources Consortium
(SERC) is the only distance learning organization in the U.S. that
combines the resources of state departments of education and public
television licensees. As a nationally recognized, nonprofit provider
of curriculum-based resources, SERC has collaborated for the past 12
years with educators, broadcast professionals, national, state, and
local curriculum organizations, video distributors, Web
technologists, and others to develop and deliver a variety of
curricular and professional development resources via satellite, VHS
    tape, CD-ROM, and Internet.

The E-Rate program has provided billions of dollars in discounts to
thousands of schools and libraries across the United States and its
territories. Because of three full years of E-Rate discounts thus
far, Internet connectivity and broadband communication links are
readily available in the vast majority of schools and libraries.
There are two teleconferences offered via satellite that addresses
    E-Rate guidelines.

    Year Five for Beginners
    October 18, 2001, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
The federal E-Rate program has brought millions of dollars in
technology discounts to schools across the United States. It does,
however, remain a cumbersome, complex program administered by the
Schools and Libraries Division, a not-for-profit company set up by
the Federal Communications Commission. Failure to follow program
procedures correctly will result in denial of funds. The Virginia
Department of Education and SERC's (Satellite Educational Resources
Consortium) Star Schools program will present this two-hour
teleconference for local E-Rate administrators new to the program.
Seasoned veterans may also find some value in refreshing E-Rate
    application skills.

    Year Five: Maximizing Discounts
    October 25, 2001, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
On the eve of the opening of the Year Five E-Rate filing window, the
Virginia Department of Education and SERC's Star Schools present a
two-hour teleconference for schools and libraries on new issues to
consider with the program, including Internet filtering, new forms,
new regulations, and how to get the most out of the program.

    Eastern Connecticut State University
