HERDING KITTENS:
How to Have Influence When You Don't Have Power or Authority
Presented by Pat Wagner
Pattern Research, Denver, CO
Thursday, November 1, 2001
9:00 a.m. to Noon
Wallingford Public Library Community Room
Sponsored by Southern New England Law Librarians' Association, with
generous support from Lexis Publishing
Many legal and other special librarians work within corporations and
institutions where they have little power or authority, especially
when it comes to the decision-makers. However, being good as an
information professional is not enough to ensure you will have the
clout to get the financial resources and political support you
deserve. Learn a simple and effective model for understanding the
differences among power, authority and influence issues and learn how
to apply this information in many settings, including law firms,
judicial and legislative bodies, universities, corporations, research
firms, financial institutions and as a solo practitioner. You will
also learn about the ethics of positive influence and when to know
when to quit or step back.
Pat Wagner and her partner Leif Smith own Pattern Research, a
27-year-old research and training business in Denver. Her programs
for law and special librarians include presentations at AALL and SLA,
as well as AALL chapter programs across the US. She will be
presenting programs for the LAMA/ALA project management regional
institute in coming months.
This program is free and open to the public. However, space is
limited and registration is necessary. To register or for more
information about the program, contact Linda Mellick at (203)
207-8625 by October 29, 2001.
