You might like to check out the Perspectives in Children's Literature Annual Conference website (http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~childlit/).

I've gone to a few of these one day conferences in recent years and have always found them invigorating. A number of New England authors have been there as presenters, e.g., Jane Yolen, Barry Moser, Patricia MacLachlan, Julius Lester, Shulamith Oppenheim, etc., so this may give you some ideas.

Our town elementary school is interested in having an author visit. Any
ideas of someone within the tri-state region who's dynamic and will
appeal to K-5? Has anyone ever had Steven Kellogg ($$$?) Of course, cost is an issue, but I'd like any ideas you may have. You may reply
    directly to me. Thanks.
