    Good Morning,

    This is a reminder to libraries that an important E-Rate deadline is coming up on the 28th.

    All libraries and schools that were sent a funding commitment letter for Funding Year 4 must file a form 486 before October 28th. The form must be postmarked by the 28th in order to receive discounts retroactively to the Service Start Date (normally July 1st). If it is postmarked after October 28th the postmarked date will become the start date for discounted services.

    Form 486 indicates receipt of services and authorizes payments to vendors. It also certifies that your technology plan has been approved and that you are in compliance with CIPA requirements. REMEMBER: although CIPA requirements do not apply to libraries receiving discounts for telecommunications only - you must still file a form 486 by October 28th. If you have a funding commitment for telecommunications service only you may check the box in item 11 that your library is exempt from CIPA requirements.

    Also remember that Technology Plans are good for only three years. If you have not revised your plan since the beginning of the program you should do so now. These plans must be approved by the time you file the form 486. I am the official approver of public library technology plans. Please send me your plans ASAP. I'll make it a priority to read them this week.
