    The Connecticut Library Association Support Staff Section
    (CLASS)
    Announces Two Annual Awards:

    "Support Staff of the Year" Award

    This award promotes the role of library assistants and
    support staff in the library and information science
    fields. It also recognizes the importance of support staff
    and their image in the library profession.

    Nominees must be currently working in the library profession
    in Connecticut in a position that does not require an MLS
    (although the nominee may hold an MLS). Self-nominations
    will be accepted. Criteria for nomination may include any
    or all of the following: 1) outstanding service to the
    library profession, 2) exemplary involvement in library
    assistant activities at the local, state, regional, or
    national levels, 3) publication of professional writing or
    presentation of professional programs/workshops, 4)
    promotion of support staff development, or 5) noteworthy
    achievements in the local workplace.

    "Supporter of Support Staff of the Year" Award

    This award recognizes library administrative staff who
    promote the role of library assistants and support staff in
    the library and information science fields.

    Nominees must be currently working in the library profession
    in Connecticut. Self-nominations will be accepted.
    Criteria for nomination may include any or all of the
    following: 1) promotion of support staff development, 2)
    exemplary involvement in library assistant activities at the
    local, state, regional, or national levels, or 3)
    publication of professional writing or presentation of
    professional programs/workshops on the role of support staff
    in libraries

    These awards are administered by the CLASS section of CLA.
    The chair of this section will appoint a committee to decide
    the award recipients. Members of the committee and section
    chair are not eligible for nomination in the year they are
    serving.

    To make a nomination, include the following information: 1)
    which award you are nominating for; 2) the nominee's name,
    position, library, and library address & phone number; 3) a
    one-page (or less) description of why this person deserves
    the award; and 4) your name and contact information.
    Supporting letters and accompanying materials will be
    accepted but the nominating letter will be of primary
    importance. Letters must be sent to the following address
    by Jan. 18, 2002:

    The awards will be presented at the CLA annual conference in
    April, 2002. The award prize will consist of public
