    CONNECTICUT LIBRARY ASSOCIATION
SUPPORT STAFF SECTION AWARD WINNTERS 2002

The Support Staff Section of the Connecticut Library Association
(C.L.A.S.S.) is proud to announce that Nancy Bailey of Russell Library in
Middletown, CT has been awarded the Association's Support Staff of the Year
award. Ms. Bailey works in both the Technical Services and Children’s
Departments at Russell Library. She was nominated by both Elizabeth Mainiero
of Cupolo Consulting, who worked with Ms. Bailey on a Long-Range Planning
process for the library, and by Robin Jacobsen, Community Services
Librarian. Other letters of support for the nomination came from Russell
Library Director Arthur Meyers, and from Isabel Danforth, Head of Technology
Services. Ms. Jacobsen noted the awardee’s exemplary service on the
long-range planning committee, her many years of outstanding service to the
library, her imagination, and her willingness to learn new technologies. Ms.
Mainiero said, in part, “I have worked in libraries since 1960 and have
never before felt that it was so essential to recognize an individual as
this current wish to have Nancy Bailey recognized.”

C.L.A.S.S.’s Supporter of Support Staff of the Year iaward for 2002 is given
to Michael Golrick, currently Director of the Bridgeport Public Library. He
was nominated by Pam Perll and Diana Paris, former co-chairs of C.L.A.S.S.
during the time that Mr. Golrick serviced as President of the Association.
The nomination cited Mr. Golrick’s leadership and initiative in ensuring
that support staff issues and concerns were included in all aspects of the
Association’s work. He was especially supportive of C.L.A.S.S.’s efforts to
initiate an annual full-day paraprofessional conference in the state. Ms.
Paris and Ms. Perll state that “he truly appreciates the job
paraprofessionals do and full well knows the value that we provide to our
    patrons and the library profession.”

Ms. Bailey and Mr. Golrick will receive their awards at the Connecticut
Library Association’s annual conference Awards Reception on April 16, 2002
from 3:45 – 5 pm at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Cromwell, CT.
C.L.A.S.S. congratulates them both on their outstanding contributions to the
library community and wishes them continued success.
