In its long history, 1,810 newspapers have been published in Connecticut and have been saved in libraries, historical societies and museums throughout the state. However, more than 200 Connecticut newspapers have never been found. Many issues of known newspapers are missing or in very poor condition. The Connecticut Newspaper Project and the Connecticut State Library are still hoping to find these missing newspapers and missing issues. Institutions and individuals that did not participate in the Project are encouraged to contact the State Library if they own Connecticut newspapers.
Newspapers for ethnic and minority groups played an important role in Connecticut, keeping their readers informed about news and activities for their group. While the project has located some issues of these newspapers, they tend to be hard to find or incomplete runs. The project wishes to hear from anyone who owns any of these newspapers.
