Essex
Middlesex County, Town established September 13, 1852 as Old Saybrook. Name of town was changed July 8, 1854 to Essex. Parent Town: Saybrook

Essex Probate District was constituted as Old Saybrook Probate District, July 4, 1853, from the Saybrook Probate District and included what are now the three Towns of Essex, Old Saybrook and Westbrook. Probate court name was changed to Essex in 1859. The Essex Probate District contains the Old Saybrook probate records from July 4, 1853 to July 4, 1859. The Essex Probate District currently serves the Town of Essex.
