Portrayal of Private William Webb, Civil War Soldier of the 29th Connecticut Volunteers

Now I was born in the year 1834. My motherís name was Eloise Johnson and my Dad; I do not know.  Iíve always wanted to know who Dad was.  Was Dad a nice man?  Was he strong? Was he friendly? Was he kind? Was he a hard worker? I never had the opportunity to meet him.

But in 1840, my mother, she met and she married a Mr. Edwin Salisbury, of Ellington. Now Mr. Salisbury was a good man. He owned land; and he taught me all those things a young man needs to know. He taught me how to work with my hands. He taught me honor and respect.
He was everything to me.

He was my friend. He was my big brother. Thanks, Dad.
